Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was convicted of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under house arrest pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a invitation to a public vigil that could enable a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said information from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the protest called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a gathering of his backers near his father's house to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: Will you battle for your country, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your sofa? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the chance of his "relocation to embassies near the residence, considering that the inquiries revealed a history of organizing to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

Recent Legal Requests

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was convicted of leading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the presidential race to his political opponent, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a scheme which encompassed plans to murder his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the support of the army and air force commanders. Lula was inaugurated without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a following week, on 8 January, numerous his followers invaded and destroyed public facilities in the capital, Brazil's capital.

The police intervened and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the Brazilian military to intervene, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.
